Give the Gift of Volunteering this Holiday Season!

Volunteer Chore Services would like to help you make your holiday a breeze by giving the gift of volunteering.  Here is how:

Instead of hours of shopping, pledge your volunteer time to help low-income older adults with household chores they can no longer do or provide transportation for essential errands.

Give as little as one hour or provide help each month for an entire year!  Your volunteer assistance can make a significant difference for an older adult, allowing them to remain in familiar surroundings this holiday season and beyond.

Shoeboxes Of Joy

Volunteer Chore Services once again invites civic and faith groups, schools, businesses, families and individuals to participate in its holiday program, Shoeboxes of Joy, which provides holiday gifts for frail and isolated adults throughout King County.  The brightly decorated shoeboxes are delivered to low-income elders and adults with disabilities receiving services through Catholic Community Services.

Shoeboxes of JoyMany of those receiving the gift boxes live alone with no family or friends nearby and may not receive any other gift, so we encourage participants to thoughtfully fill a wrapped shoebox with a variety of useful items, as well as fun and specialty items.  We ask that these boxes be full of quality items.  The most appreciated items are postage stamps, prepaid phone cards, grocery (or other) gift certificates, small flashlights, night lights, batteries, calculators, disposable cameras, stationary, scarves, gloves, toiletries, playing cards, calendars, and food items.  Theme boxes can also be fun and are appreciated, i.e. disaster preparedness, diabetic or cancer patient boxes, and male or female boxes.

Boxes should be completed and delivered to the CCS offices the first week in December. Please call 206-328-5787 or 1-888-649-6850 or by e-mail for more information and to register your group for this project.
